Women’s Experience of Income Management in the Northern Territory

During May and June 2011, Equality Rights Alliance documented women’s experiences of Income Management in the Northern Territory. We want the views of women living with Income Management to be heard in public discussion of Income Management policy. Check out their report here.

 The Howard government’s justification for the original Northern Territory Emergency Response was based substantially on the presumption that it would protect women and children from violence and abuse in the designated communities. The current Government’s justification for extending some measures puts similar arguments.WEL ‘s submission focusses on whether the proposed measures will enhance, reduce or otherwise affect the well being of women and the children in their care.

Pension review

On 15 May 2008, the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, the Hon Jenny Macklin MP, announced that Dr Jeff Harmer, the Secretary of her department, would lead a comprehensive review of the pension system as part of the Government’s broader review of Australia’s Future Tax System.

 

The Pension Review will investigate measures to strengthen the financial security of seniors, carers, and people with disability by considering the:
