WEL women in wiki

Help WEL add and update wikipedia by joining our Wiki Workshop. We'll be adding and updating information about fabulous women to make sure that our sisters are recognised for their achievements.

Wikipedia is the internet's largest online encyclopaedia and used right across the globe by people from all walks of life - researchers, students, parents, children - almost anyone worldwide who is seeking information on practically anything.

However, according to the ABC, only 16% of individuals profiled on Wikipedia are women - and even less are contributors to the website. Worse still, of those women who are profiled on Wikipedia, their entries are shorter, more scant of detail and contain less references than their male counterparts.
This is a huge problem - not only are women far less represented than men on what is now the world's biggest and most accessed online encyclopaedia - but their absence  further perpetuates what we have always known - women have mostly been absent from our world's records.
We believe that history belongs to those that record it and over millennia, women have been largely absent from the annals of history.
For over 45 years WEL has worked tirelessly to ensure women are represented in politics, business, leadership and in our historical records.

So how can you help us ensure that women are equally represented?

Join our WEL Women in Wiki workshop at the WEL HQ!

All you need is a laptop and internet connection, and then all you will need to do is create an account (we'll provide the pizza and snacks!). We can help you do this on the day and will include all instructions and show you how to edit a page!

On the day we will provide page 'tips' - profiles or pages of women that need entering or updating. Or, if you're interested in editing or submitting some of your own pages, why not update the pages of Australian feminists?
Will you come?
