On Tuesday 10 May from 12:00-1:30pm (AEST) you can join us online for a WEL national forum, ‘The 2022 Federal Election: How will women vote?’

Participants will put the spotlight on political parties and their candidates’ attempts to capture the women’s vote. It will explore what policies are appealing to women voters and how policies such as ours can make a tangible difference to people’s lives while leading to a gender equal Australia.

A panel of feminist commentators, experts and community representatives  and  (we hope), some candidates, will discuss and answer questions such as:

• Is there a women’s vote?
• What should a serious gender equity policy platform look like?
• How is gender playing out in this election and how are the political parties and candidates responding?

Our election scorecard will assess party policies against the key points of the WEL policy platform.

Our volunteer campaign team and policy experts are now busy checking and recording the Greens, Labor and Coalition policy announcements on work, income, housing, violence, health, representation, early childhood education and care and education and training. We are also noting commitments on climate change and corruption.

We have sent the platform and our scorecard plans to the leaders of Labor, the Coalition and the Greens, to some key independents and crossbenchers and to ministers, shadow ministers and party spokespeople in portfolios related to our policies. We have sought support for the platform from some of our major allies.

WEL’s focus will be on the major political parties as tracking independents would strain our already stretched resources. A party or parties will form the next government, with or without the support of independents.
