Support the delegation
“We need to own our stories and come together to appreciate each other and listen. Violence hurts, it hurts society, its hurts families and it hurts you and I.”
- Dixie Link Gordon 2019
CSW64 has invited the Breaking Silent Codes project to share their collective experiences and wisdom of Australian and Pacifica First Nation women’s journeys out of violence to empowerment.
The delegation includes 15 women from Australian and Pacifica countries who are supported by Domestic Violence Community Educator, Dixie Link Gordon and international human rights artist and advocate, Belinda Mason. The project will host an international panel event and artistic exhibition of the project at CSW64. The event will be the largest delegation of first Australian and Pacifica nations women to attend CSW.
Breaking Silent Codes delegates, who reside in Australia and across the Pacifica (Thursday Island, Fiji, Cook Islands, Samoa, Tonga and New Zealand), will share with the global community the knowledge they have gained in breaking the cycle of violence and the pathways they found that have allowed women to live freely and safely in their communities.
The event will showcase the power of women’s song lines across the Pacific as they individually and collectively responded to their personal and intergenerational experiences of violence. The event will feature First Nations storytelling, women’s ceremony, and showcase the programs and responses each woman and community have used to break the silent codes of violence.
WEL is proud to support this project through the provision of its organisational infrastructure and support in Australia and on the ground in New York.
