Women’s refuges save lives - spread the word!

Women’s refuges save lives. We request that the Prime Minister act swiftly to agree to a long-term secure separate national funding program for women’s refuges to ensure women and children escaping family and domestic violence have a safe haven and access to specialist services to enable them to rebuild their lives.

64 deaths and counting…. come on, it’s a national shame. Be REALISTIC Malcolm, money needs to go to specialised shelters AS WELL AS to devices to help those women and children who CAN stay at home, that is not all, for some that is unrelastic for many it is not….. there HAS to be specialised shelters for DV victims, do some reading, these women are traumatised, they have no way to protect themselves from other predators / perpertrators in homelessness shelters.

if the legal system won’t adequately protect women and children from violent partners and parents, then women need to have a reliable safe haven available at any time of day or night.

with domestic violence sweeping the nation in current times, there has never been more need for refuges to be built – not just in city/suburban locations, but also in regional locations. how many more women and children need to be scarred for life or murdered before the government takes a stand? more australians have died in 2015 alone as a result of domestic violence than this so-called war-on-terrorism our politicians have committed countless dollars to fund, yet far less is being done to combat the real terror at home for women and children each and every day.

We need specialist support services and safe places for women and children escaping domestic violence. We need to shine a light on Australia’s domestic violence epidemic – and we need to take action. Women and children are living in fear every day – we have already lost too many. As a nation we need to recognise domestic violence as the clear and present danger it is. As a nation we need to change.

if not criminal it is at best neglectful and contributory to the propagation of violence against women if the government fails to provide shelter and safety for abused women and children
