Women’s refuges save lives - spread the word!

Women’s refuges save lives. We request that the Prime Minister act swiftly to agree to a long-term secure separate national funding program for women’s refuges to ensure women and children escaping family and domestic violence have a safe haven and access to specialist services to enable them to rebuild their lives.

In a situation of domestic violence women often need both psychological and material support, usually both. As children are also usually involved the situation calls for a funding approach different to simply the problem of homelessness.

It is shameful that women’s refuges are under threat. They are vital in helping women and children to escape from domestic violence. This issue is very different to general homelessness and should be recognised as such and funded appropriately.
