Women’s refuges save lives - spread the word!

Women’s refuges save lives. We request that the Prime Minister act swiftly to agree to a long-term secure separate national funding program for women’s refuges to ensure women and children escaping family and domestic violence have a safe haven and access to specialist services to enable them to rebuild their lives.

A woman should not have to be subject to a man’s (if you should call him that) physical & verbal abuse.

Battered, terrified women and children escaping violent households should not have to go to Refuges shared with men as they now have to in NSW. Specialised Women only refuges need to be refunded and the number of these safe places expanded because the need appears to be greater than ever considering the large numbers of women and children who have died this year.

The notion and policy of NSW Government of “Going home staying home” appears to be heartless and dangerous considering the circumstances for women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

The most dangerous time for women is when they are leaving a violent partner – refuges are so needed because women and their children must have safety and be in a refuge managed by women. Funding must be restored and increased with the growing awareness of and removal of stigma of women caught in violent relatkonships
