Women’s refuges save lives - spread the word!

Women’s refuges save lives. We request that the Prime Minister act swiftly to agree to a long-term secure separate national funding program for women’s refuges to ensure women and children escaping family and domestic violence have a safe haven and access to specialist services to enable them to rebuild their lives.

The need for refuge should be eliminated all together as its a last resort for any woman and her children to have to flee. But in lieu of other measures removing funding and /or always having the funding under question is absurd. Let these services grow in strength and confidence.

It is contradictory for a government to have Rosie Batty as Australian of the Year, while at the same time to have been closing women’s refuges at an unprecedented rate since being elected. Please reverse this.

I am incensed that so much is being spent on terrorism prevention that kills hardly anyone and so little is spent on domestic violence support and prevention. Domestic violence kills hundreds.

All the money in the world won’t do much good if it’s not spent on more refuges, education in schools and finally, housing for women and children rebuilding their lives. No more studies/surveys/government lunches ~ take it to the people on the front lines.
