Women’s refuges save lives - spread the word!

Women’s refuges save lives. We request that the Prime Minister act swiftly to agree to a long-term secure separate national funding program for women’s refuges to ensure women and children escaping family and domestic violence have a safe haven and access to specialist services to enable them to rebuild their lives.

I believe the security of longer-term funding is essential for establishing an effective service – with continuity of support –

these complex problems require time to interevene effectively

Also the administrative time and energy that is wasted in constantly trying to secure on-going funding could be well-used elsewhere

As a service we struggle with the lack of refuge’s for women escaping DV. We would like to see more supports for families to address the issues associated with FDV, not only for the women but also the children and the men impacted by violence and perpetrators of violence. A positive start is to create more safe houses for people to start the healing process so that they can then be empowered to find their future path.
